About
Hobbies
- Running — In November 2009, I ran in the Outer Banks Half Marathon and finished 450th (of about 4000), which was a huge personal accoplishment. I plan on running another half marathon in 2010.
- Gardening — This past year, my wife and I expanded our garden to include four 8′x4′ raised beds in a fenced area behind our house. We grow tomatoes, squash, beans, peas, garlic, onions, carrots, lettuce, basil, rosemerry, and oregano.
- Woodworking — My long term goal is to hand make every piece of furniture in our house. So far, I have made our kitchen table, our queen-sized bed, and a couple shelves.

- Sentry Data Systems – I was part of a team that is developing a large-scale data warehouse, a querying language and API, and a front-end application for data mining.

- CharitablePlanning.com – As the project manager and lead developer, I saw this project from design through implementation, creating a website, a large cross-referenced PDF library, a large-scale full text search solution, and many other fun projects.
- Kiva Systems – I developed a Java application that created and managed maps for their automated robotic warehouse management solution.
- SquirrelMail – My brother and I created SquirrelMail back in 1999, since no good open source webmail solutions existed at the time. For more info, see the wikipedia article.
